THE DRAWING SHOP RESPONSEs:

Response 1:

This installation was created in response to The Drawing Shop. I was particularly moved by the project’s emphasis on inclusivity, liberation, connectivity, and re-humanisation. These ideas formed the foundation of my response. The space itself felt profoundly powerful, and I wanted the scale of the work to reflect that sense of expansiveness and communal energy.
The exterior surface of the installation is covered in painterly, gestural marks, contrasted by the interior, which is largely blank. This duality speaks to the serenity and quiet focus of entering a creative flow state. Because many children participate in The Drawing Shop, I also wanted the structure to evoke a sense of a den a playful, protective space that invites curiosity and belonging. The piece was intentionally positioned around the light source in the space, symbolising the way The Drawing Shop acts as a shining light within the Sheffield community.
